Night Shift 1/12/26

This is my 3rd book of the year. It is Night Shift by Annie Crown. Again, I am going to be vague first then I will dive into spoilers.

This story is about a nerdy English Major named Kendall and the star Basketball player named Vincent. It’s an opposite attract kind of story. Things happened hot and fast in the beginning of the story. It follows your good old miscommunication trope, which Kendall conveniently hates. The whole story is about whether they will end up together in the end.

I enjoyed the book. It was a nice refresher from some of the other romance stories I had been reading. It is also one pov, which I enjoyed. But because of that, we only got Kendall’s side of the story and none of the basketball side. One of the main characters may had played a sport, but this was defiantly NOT a sport romance. I wish this was something I would have read a few years ago when I was younger. I think I would have enjoyed it much more then. It is set during college which is nice being that I am still in college and can relate.

And now for the spoilers

I found this book really funny when it came to how Kendall shared her view on the world. How she kept talking about and see things through the eyes of an author. She mentions multiple times that if her life was a romance book, this is the trope that would happen next, or this is what the love interest is going to do next. It is all really ironic because it was a romance book. She would talk about this trope and that trope like she wasn’t actually doing those exact things. The author in me just thought this was really funny and I loved it.

Also, there is a point when they finally confess to each other and clear things up, and I think to myself ‘This is a sweet spot to end the book’ (page 214). But no. This book is 304 pages long, after page 214 it is all just sex. Them kissing and pushing each other into bookshelves, being caught. Going into an attic and Kendall giving Vincent a blow job, then them going to her place and have sex. At that point the plot was gone. I think I would have liked the book better if it ended at 214 but it’s alright. This is just my opinion. The author did what she wanted to do, and she did it well. I also have to remind myself that this book came from Wattpad and these were the kinds of things that happened on that sight. Absolutely no judgement here, I thought the book was good and I am happy to be adding it to my bursting shelves.

See what I did there…. bursting…. like how the characters felt like doing through the whole book….. sorry I am done now. Have a lovely day. Happy Readings!
