I am back with my 11th book of the year, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Let me just tell you that this was always my favorite movie from the series, it just became my favorite book too. I am going to be diving straight in again because I can, this is your warning. Jim Dale is my man and has again delivered another great reading of this series. So far this is the longest book I have listened to on Libby, so long in-fact that I had to start listening to it while driving, getting ready in the morning, to getting ready for bed, because I almost ran out of time to listen to the whole thing.
Now for those who might not know, this is the 4th book of the Harry Potter series, and it is the book that sets up the rest of the series. Harry is starting is fourth year at Hogwarts, and this is the year that they decide to bring the return of the Triwizard Tournament. This is a game were one person from all the competing schools, gets selected to be the champion of their school, getting to participate in dangerous task, mind twisting test, and the chance to bring home the victory. Would you be shocked if I told you that Harry gets selected and forced to compete, even though he never signed up. This year at Hogwarts Harry meets new people, learns new kinds of dark magic, and is trying to figure out who would volunteer Harry and why are they trying to get him killed.
Again, I love doing comparisons of books to movies, and I believe there is a big one in this book that is worth mentioning. During this whole book, Hermione is obsessed with house elves and their working conditions. She finds her way into the kitchens were they all work and tries to convince them that they should be working for money. Dobby makes a return in this book, along with another elf named Winky, who had also been freed. Dobby is the one that helps Harry out in the second task, making sure he doesn’t die and Winky is involved in the concealment of one of Lord Voldemort’s most trusted supporters. And let me tell you. None of this is in the movie. I was shocked. Not once are the house elves mentioned, let alone this Winky character. Dobby doesn’t make a reappearance till like the 6th and 7th movie. And Neville is the one that helps Harry in the second task. Seeing all these changes is crazy to me and I can’t wait to see how the rest of the books play out because of it, or what else they also include. I enjoy that the book is much more of a mystery then the movie is. Also, I like seeing how Hermione’s character is growing, how at the end she caught Rita Skeeter in the end and put her in a glass jar. Like how crazy is that.
Anyway, that is all for now, I can’t wait to read the next book, which will be a bit because I am waiting in the long line that is Libby’s holds. Happy Readings!!
